What causes dark circles and how to care for them
As a family that has grown Bulgarian herbs and created natural skincare for years, at InaEssentials we often hear the same question from our customers: why do the shadows under the eyes remain even after a long, restful sleep? Almost all of us pay the price of a modern lifestyle - hours in front of screens, everyday stress and tiredness.
In this article, we'll share what we learned during our research while developing our new eye cream, and how you can bring the natural radiance back to your eyes.
Why do dark circles appear under the eyes?

The truth is that dark circles are a stubborn, complex issue in which genetics, physiology and the environment all play a part.
-
The appearance of dark circles is directly linked to the specific anatomy of our face. The skin around the eye contour is up to 10 times thinner than in other areas, which makes it extremely delicate and vulnerable. Beneath it lies a dense network of fine capillaries and blood vessels.
-
When the body is under stress, overtired or short on oxygen, blood flow slows down and the blood becomes deoxygenated, taking on a darker colour. Because of the lack of dense fatty tissue, these altered vessels start to show through the surface of the skin more easily.
-
What's more, over time the natural levels of structural proteins decline, which thins the dermis even further. Factors such as dehydration, localised lymphatic fluid retention and genetically determined melanin (skin pigment) distribution combine to turn temporary tiredness into permanent, greyish or brownish shadows under the eyes.
Not all dark circles are the same: which type do you have?

To choose the right skincare routine, you first need to identify the exact nature of the problem. There are three main types:
- Vascular (Blue/Purple): Caused by poor microcirculation. Because the skin under the eyes is extremely thin, the blood vessels show through it.
- Pigmented (Brown): Caused by a build-up of melanin. Common in people who spend a lot of time in the sun or who have a genetic predisposition.
- Structural (Shadows): These aren't a change in skin colour, but an optical illusion caused by volume loss (hollowing) under the eyes, which creates a shadow.
Does blue light from screens affect dark circles?

Yes, and far more directly than you might think. Modern screens emit high-energy visible blue light (HEV), which penetrates deep into the dermis. This triggers oxidative stress and speeds up collagen breakdown, making the skin in the eye area even thinner and more translucent.
The thinner it becomes, the more visible the bluish capillaries beneath it become. That's why biotechnological protection is key.
A complex approach to care: White Truffle, Caffeine and Horse Chestnut

When our goal is real, lasting results, we rely on a precise synergistic effect. That's why we brought these powerful active ingredients together in one balanced formula, to provide both instant toning and deep structural renewal of this delicate area.
☕ Caffeine is one of the most effective ingredients for quickly refreshing tired eyes. It has a pronounced vasoconstrictive effect, as it helps temporarily constrict dilated capillaries under the eyes and supports the fast drainage of excess fluid. This makes it invaluable in the fight against bluish tones and puffiness in the morning.
🌰 Horse Chestnut works in depth on the vascular network. Thanks to its rich content of aescin, the extract strengthens the capillary walls and reduces their permeability. This mechanism helps limit plasma retention in the tissues, which is a leading cause of chronic puffiness.
🩵 White Truffle - The formula is completed with the addition of this valuable ingredient, rich in essential amino acids and minerals. White Truffle revitalises cells on a structural level, helps firm the dermis and increase its elasticity. It has been shown to help visually fill in hollow areas, giving the whole eye contour a rested, fresh appearance, with elasticity improved by up to 35%.
What's the difference between caring for dark circles and caring for wrinkles?

People often assume that an ordinary anti-wrinkle cream will also deal with dark circles, but the two work through different mechanisms.
Wrinkles require cell renewal and stimulation of structural proteins (ingredients like Bakuchiol), while vascular dark circles require ingredients that support microcirculation and drainage (Caffeine and Horse Chestnut). The good news? Our product brings both worlds together for complete Anti-Age care.
At InaEssentials, we created Rose Eye Lift as a complete solution for tired eyes. Our formula combines the luxury of rose from our organic gardens with next-generation biotechnology to help “erase” the signs of tiredness:
❤️ Illuminating Vitamin C: We've included a botanical active with Vitamin C, which improves skin radiance and reduces the grey tone of the skin.
❤️ 3D Hydration with Aquaxyl™: A sugar complex that prevents the dehydration which makes skin translucent and emphasises dark circles.
❤️ White Truffle (Tuber magnatum): Works on a cellular level through epigenetic modulation, activating the natural genes responsible for protection and revitalisation. Improves elasticity by up to 35% (in vivo tests).
❤️ Epitensive™ EVO: A plant-based growth factor which reduces under-eye bags by up to 14% and improves skin radiance by up to 86.5%, so that blood vessels show through less easily.
How can you achieve results you can really see?
Tackling dark circles takes discipline. Here's how to get the most out of your cream:
• Cold compress: In the morning, wash your face with cold water to stimulate the blood vessels before applying Rose Eye Lift. *Don't do this if you have sensitive skin.
• Gentle massage: When applying the cream, use light tapping movements. This stimulates lymphatic drainage and helps it absorb more deeply.
• Hydration from within: No cream can replace water. Drink enough fluids to help prevent salt and water retention, which leads to puffiness.
Is 20 or 25 too early to start an eye care routine?

Absolutely not. Since vascular dark circles are a direct result of tiredness, stress and blue light, they often appear earliest.
Starting a light eye care routine with natural venotonic ingredients and powerful moisturisers builds strong protection, before fine lines turn into permanent mechanical wrinkles. Although this area is the most vulnerable on the face, modern biotechnology offers a real alternative.
